Behind the scenes stories and the making of

The journey of all these artworks begins with an initial photofgraph or computer-generated image which is then projected onto a model. I capture various images and patterns and then modify them for use in the projects.

This video an illustration of how a photo the glass ceiling of a palace in Barcelona was used to create "Digital Twins"

Sometimes its the everyday objects in which there are patterns to be found.  Woven is made by projecting a photo of our laundry basket on the model.

Lightshows, fairs etc are also lovely sources of patterns. Here for instance is the original photograph from the lights of Lier, used to create the artwork  "Dreaming of Paradise"

And these lights from a food stall in a fair in Lier were used to make "Novemberfoor":

The photos are almost ready out-of-the camera. The patterns and effects are authentic. Props and distractions are removed, and a colour/contrast adjustments are applied to finish off the image.

The image on the left shows an unedited off-the-camera cropped image, and the one on the right shows the final product.

Combining images together can sometimes give interesting results. Billology is a collage of 8 photos individually taken using the camera-projector flicker effect. The first and second photos shown here suchs photo from the set, the second shows the full set, and the last one is the finished Bilology product.
